No attempt to understand the 33rd PRS is complete without some background on their immediate adversaries — the Luftwaffe in 1944 and 1945. Almost all of the squadron’s pilots had to deal, at one time or the other, with Germany’s most famous fighters, Messerschmitt’s Bf 109 (popularly referred to as the “Me 109″) and Focke Wulf’s Fw 190. Several 33rd pilots tangled with Messerschmitt’s Me 262 jet, including Captain John Austin, who was shot down and killed by one. This documentary features plenty of excellent wartime footage and a well-crafted narration.
